Here's my story in a nutshell: For a couple of years my family has suspected that my daughter, Cory, and her husband, Jared, use drugs of some kind. Last spring Jared was in the Thurston County, Washington Jail for violating a protective order against contact with Cory. He was in work release with only three months to go when he walked away and took Cory to Canada with him. (She walked away from a job and an apartment with everything in it.) I fretted about it until I discovered where they were. I went to see them just to ask them to look me in the eye and tell me what the heck they thought they were doing. Cory told me they were very happy working in a winery in south-central British Columbia - illegally, of course. I think they thought they could become citizens in time. When September rolled around, the winery work dried up and the temperature plummeted. Cory called me to say, "I'm cold, I'm hungry, I'm dirty and I'm tired, and I want to come home!" I was more than happy to help them get home, but it cost me $1000 and when they got home, they immediately went underground to avoid having Jared go back to jail. I had hired an attorney to help him do that, but I guess he didn't like that idea. I visited Cory one Saturday in 10/05 and sprang a pee test on her. (I was surprised that she agreed, but she had a very strange, Who gives a rip? attitude that day.) She tested positive for marijuana and meth. The next week, she discovered she is pregnant. Jared whines to his mother that he won't be there for his child, but then he refuses to go back to jail to get his sentence over with! I also contacted CPS. They told me to call them when there's a month to go in the pregnancy. I called Cory's OB/GYN clinic and advised them that Cory is a meth user. I called the police and advised them about who knows where they were staying. I started reading the KCI Board. I formed a Yahoo group with the purpose of sharing info about how to deal with addicted friends and family in Washington State. I joined AL-ANON. I ordered some books about meth, including Mary Holley's book, Crystal Meth, They Call it ICE. I have started a community action group called Mothers Against Methamphetamine and am planning my first rally. A US congressman from our state has agreed to speak.
